Nambour Garden Expo.  July 2021.

It was a real challenge for the Garden Expo to go ahead this year, the most challenging event the organisers have ever presented. Despite the attendance being down thirty percent, the dedicated gardeners were queuing in the rain before 7 a m on Friday the  first day of the 3 day event.

Regional Visitors were cautious, and there were cancellations as late as Thursday evening because of the chance of having to go into quarantine for fourteen days. It was still a very  successful show for the many Exhibitors.

Unfortunately we were not able to have a stand of our own this year, but were happy to assist Buderim and Nambour Garden Clubs, and we thank them for their hospitality.  Thanks also to Noel and Lola Milliner and Jill Williams from Caboolture Garden Club, and Tom Hayes from The Gap Garden Club for joining in the fun and promoting Garden Clubs  In the circumstances the many Visitors who attended were very happy and looking forward to a great show next year.

Nambour Garden Expo.  July 2022.

The weather this year was perfect after the torrential rain of last year when all the Garden Clubs were gathered down on the Oval in the mud. This year we were inside up near the Main Entrance where the Garden Clubs had some beautiful Displays including the Sunshine Coast Fragrant Garden.

Friendship Day 28 Sept 2022

This year unlike previous years due to Covid restrictions the Boonah District Garden Club was able to hold a Friendship Day where members of other clubs were able to attend.

List of Member Club Events

On 28 September the club held a High Tea Friendship Day” where sixty five members and twenty one guests attended.  As a result of receiving a grant from the Scenic Rim Council the event took  place in the Boonah Cultural Centre.

Pink and floral was the theme. Members out did themselves by bringing in a multitude of cuttings and flowers to decorate the hall.  Ashley Haag a long term member brought in buckets of various coloured sweet peas.  Their fragrance filled the hall with their beautiful perfume.

Members showed that not only are they excellent gardeners but also wonderful country cooks. Each member was asked to bring something for the High Tea.  Delicious cakes, tarts and slices filled the tiered cakestands and the beautiful crockery enhanced the high tea atmosphere.

The competition table showcased what can be grown in the Scenic Rim area and the club received many compliments on the quality of the entrants.

Chelsea Allan from Travallan Lifestyle Centre at Booval was the club’s guest speaker.  She introduced a number of new plants on the market and gave a very relaxed talk on the use of fertilizers.

In addition the members brought in a number of potted plants for sale on their plant stall and several items for the bric a brac stall.  As usual the rolling raffle was a great success with the number of wonderful raffle prizes. Boonah’s country balladeer Darryl Freiberg entertained guests with his melodies and his jokes.

Friendship is like a cup of tea a special blend of you and me.  All in all Boonah District Garden Club believes that the day was very successful and hopes that all their guests had a lovely day.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Tanya Milligan said the Open Garden Scheme was a great opportunity to acknowledge the dedicated and creative gardeners who call the Lockyer Valley home.

"If you're proud of your garden and would still like to show it off, we think this is a great concept," she said.

"Many of our residents find great pleasure in their gardens and have diversified to waterwise plants and setups to make the most of the minimal rainfall since the drought declaration two years ago.

"Particularly over the last few months as people have been staying at home, they have turned to the garden for a sense of achievement, companionship with other family members and many are growing edible plants which is great."
