Wisteria Pergola - Mt Tamborine Botanic Gardens
As it had rained through the night and was very wet underfoot, the venue for meeting with the representatives of Tamborine Mt. Garden Club was the Vonda Youngman Centre. With nine QCGC committee members arriving together, we were welcomed by the President and invited to a lunch full of freshly picked organic vegetables - lettuce, radish, snowpeas, spinach etc. Then, with a hot cuppa in hand, we mingled with approximately fifty Mt Tamborine Garden Club members who had all helped in the success of the QCGC Garden Visit Day at Tamborine held on Friday 26th May.
With everyone comfortably seated, President Sandy Silabon started the official proceedings, and as President of QCGC, I was invited to address the gathering before presenting the $5,000 cheque. The donation was to assist with the building of the matching Wisteria Pergola by the lake at the Botanic Gardens. I also presented a Certificate of Recognition to each of the members and owners of the gardens opened on the Visit Day. Sandy then presented me with a certificate to honour the occasion for QCGC. A representative from the Beaudesert Shire Council was invited to speak as was a member of the Australia Open Garden Scheme.
After lunch of fresh bread rolls with ham or chicken and organic salad, followed by a very tempting array of home made cakes (Yum), QCGC members joined a small convoy of cars to the Botanic Gardens for a photo shoot and to view the Wisteria Pergola and wooden plaque marking the occasion. Thank you so much Sandy and members for organising such a delightful morning and making us feel so welcome. Well done!
