The Greenpark Garden Club Inc. was formed
in1989, to bring together residents of the Greenbank and Park Ridge areas to
share their gardening experiences with each other and with newcomers. Our Club maintains
Memberships with the Queensland Council of Garden Clubs, and The Royal
Horticultural Society and is affiliated with The Garden Clubs of
Australia.
We have about one hundred members who come
from a range of different sized properties and have diverse gardening interests. The Membership fee of $16 includes n annual
club handbook, a quarterly newsletter and morning tea at meetings. Visitors are welcome and pay a small fee.
Meetings are held on the third
Monday of each month from 9 AM for a 9.30 AM start, at the New Life Lutheran
Church, 108 Middle Road, Hillcrest.
Our
meetings include guest speakers; plant stalls, with cuttings and plants
provided by members for sale; competition tables, covering floral art, foliage,
potted plants, fruit and vegetables and hanging baskets; a library of gardening
books and magazines for members to borrow, and of course, raffles.
Bus trips and visits to members’ gardens are part of our Club
activities. We visit a variety of local and regional destinations, and usually
include a visit to a plant nursery. Bus trips are held on the fourth Monday of
the month from February to November.
A Friendship Day is held on our May Birthday, when other Clubs are invited to attend the
meeting and stay for lunch afterwards. A shield is awarded at this meeting for
the member who gains the highest number of points on the competition table that
day.
An annual Christmas Party is held in December with entertainment, lunch and the presentation of
annual trophies to competition winners
