Downfall Creek Bushland Centre, McDowall

The Lord Mayor, Campbell Newman, and Brisbane City Councillor, Norm Wyndham, attended a small ceremony to receive the funds raised by QCGC for the construction of two interpretive signs. Representatives from Mt Gravatt Garden Club and Boonah Garden Club along with members from other garden clubs were also present. Following the presentation Natalie Costanzo and staff from the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre led visitors along one of the trails pointing out the existing signs and other features.
The Brisbane City Council Water Sense van was also present enabling all to study features the Council is using to encourage residents to use water wisely.

An official ceremony was held at Raven Street Reserve, Downfall Creek. The Raven Street Reserve is over 1,000 hectares of bushland set aside for the benefit of Brisbane residents, for recreation and education. This area is part of the green belt stretching from mountains to mangroves. It is also the meeting place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month for the Rode/Chermside West Garden Club.

Attending the ceremony were QCGC President Norma Fawdon and the Executive Committee, Brisbane City Councillor Norm Wyndham, Mrs Garden Club, Margaret Vogler, Natalie and staff from the centre, invited guests from QCGC and Garden Club representatives who raised the money for this venture.

Norma and Margaret Vogler, Mrs Garden Club for 2005 and the President of Boonah Garden Club which raised a significant proportion of the funds, and Bev Stubbin, Secretary of Boonah Garden Club unveiled the first sign just outside the entry to the Centre. The second sign around the corner of the Centre was unveiled by Norma and Anne Baster, Secretary of QCGC.
The Signs are very large and attractive, made from stainless steel with decorative copper artwork borders.
