Wynnum, Manly, Lota
The Club was established in 1977 and meets in the
historic Municipal Hall, Bay Terrace Wynnum (formerly the School of Arts)
The hall was built 1913 and was the first home of the Wynnum and Manly Show
which became the Wynnum and District Agricultural, Horticultural and Industrial
Show Society in 1918.
Meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month (except January)
commencing 9.00 am with morning tea while members arrange their exhibits on the
Bench, seek bargains at the Bring and Buy Trade Table, admire the
expertise of the Flower Arranging Group or just catch up with old
friends.
At each meeting a speaker is introduced, round about 10.00am providing
information of interest to gardeners. There are raffles and door
prizes, a free lending library, free magazines and pamphlets as well
as Osmocote and hanging plant pots at competitive prices.
A monthly Newsletter informs of happenings in the Club and around the
district and provides members with an avenue to pass on their useful tips,
recipes and ideas.
Bus trips to places of interest, and always including a nursery, are
arranged two to three times a year.
Friendship Day is held every year when surrounding garden clubs are
invited to join in with the Club meeting and stay for luncheon. December sees
the Annual Christmas Party with entertainment, competitions and a lunch
of Christmas fare.
An overall Shield and individual Section prizes are awarded each December for
those exhibiting and so contributing to the wonderful show amassed each month on
the Bench
Membership costs $10 per annum (from August).(2004 prices)
